Marital Satisfaction of Working Mothers with Infants: The Mediating Effect of Parenting Stress
Cho Sung-Hui

Park So-Young
Abstract
Objectives: This study was designed to explore the effects of parental stress and several other factors on marital satisfaction.

Methods: Analyzing responses from 593 working mothers of the 2009 PSKC, the researchers used the structural equation model to examine the mediating effect of parental stress on marital satisfaction.

Results: The results of this study revealed that self-efficacy, spouse¡¯s participation in parenting, and parenting stress had direct effects on marital satisfaction. When mediated by parenting stress, self-efficacy, spouse¡¯s participation in parenting, social support, and the need for supporting child-care had indirect effects on marital satisfaction. The researchers examined the mediating effect of parenting stress on the marital satisfaction of working moms with infants. This reflects the significance of this study, as the researchers overcame the limit of presenting the direct effects of factors on marital satisfaction.

Conclusions: On the basis of the results, the researchers offered a discussion and practical suggestions for decreasing the levels of parenting stress and increasing marital satisfaction among working moms.
